| This lovely chest was probably made to encase treasures such as jewelry and the like. It has six layers of chip work with minimal loss. The right side of the heavy lid is missing its complete last row and the tiny end piece at the front right of the lid is also missing. On the back there is some loss as well. The lid and sides have brass handles set on green velvet. The corners of the velvet on the lid are accented by four brass ornaments of which there is minimal loss on two. The inside is lined with the lovely all original green velvet - just a bit dusty but not faded and worn as on the outside. The wood on the bottom of the chest is covered with blue paper and has two cracks. The chest stands on four brass lion's-claw feet. There is no key for the lock. A wonderful folk art item - 12 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 8 inches high - made in Germany around 1890-1900. | ||||||||||||
