| Early Christmas trees were lit with candles in counterbalanced holders. These had a long wire with a lead weight at the bottom which was designed to balance the weight of the candles. Then the candles stood straight and burned evenly so that wax drippings were kept at a minimum. Nonetheless they had saucers to catch drippings. The leaded weight at the bottom of these candle holders is in the shape of a pine cone. Each holder is 6 1/2 inches long. Circa: 1879-1880. antikhaus has 6 candle holders available. | |||||||
