Just like in days of olde, a toy peddler selling his wares of carved wooden toys from his vendor's tray. This 8 inch fellow is a smoker from the Erzgebirge of Germany where for generations families have lathed these cheerful wooden incense burners. His body can be removed from the legs to insert a special incense candle which makes the peddler actually smoke through his mouth. Antikhaus also sells the necessary incense candles.

This friendly little shepherd stands 6 1/2 inches tall. He is a 'made in Germany' article from the Erzgebirge, the southeastern corner of Germany where toy-making has a long tradition. This little fellow is wearing a piece of white wool 'lamb skin' to keep him warm, with a lamb in his arms and a staff in hand to protect his flock. These tiny nutcracker kings - 3 1/4 inches tall - from Erzgebirge are very colorful and have movable jaws just like their big cousins. Everyone knows the colorful nutcracker kings from Seiffen in Erzgebirge, the mountains in the southeastern corner of Germany. It was here in the 19th century that the first nutcrackers of this sort were made on lathes powered by running water. And today the workshop of Christian Werner is still making these little guys in just the same way as over a 100 years ago

This little house is a match for our German putz Seiffen church. It too shows an icy wintry scene from the Erzgebirge with a typical mountain house. The wooden figures are lathed - a snowman and a Santa complete with sleigh and gifts. The bottle-brush trees, the mica snow and the light inside make it a complete tableaux, but other houses from our collection (please inquire) could make a complete putz village. The base is 6 1/2" x 7 1/4" and the house is 5" high.

A wonderful model of the octagonal village church in Seiffen, Germany, the place where so many German wooden toys are made. This lovely putz church for Christmas decorating is handcrafted of sturdy board and cardboard in the Erzgebirge. It is complete with mica snow, bottle-brush trees and tiny lathed carol singers. There is actually a tiny bell in the steeple and a light inside. The base is 6 1/2" x 7 1/2". with the steeple it is 8 3/4" tall.

This woolly sheep with his pewter horns looks almost just like his vintage counterparts. Yet he is new and was 'Made in Germany' by Ino Schaller. This wonderful little fellow is 3 3/4 inches tall without his horns and 4 inches with them. He measures 3 1/2 inches from nose to tall. He is soft and woolly and has an ever so tiny bell on his lavender ribbon collar. A lovely item for both Easter and Christmas putz decorating.
